Camping is a great way to relax and be one with the beauty of nature. Getting back to the elements in this way can calm you, and help to wash away all of your worry. Many enthusiasts make a plan to go camping at least twice a year to get to nature and rid themselves of the ills of everyday life.

The most common piece of equipment for this venture is the tent. A tent is most important for enclosure to block out unwanted elements while you are camping in the woods. The kind of tent used will depend on the area you wish to camp in. Tents are specifically constructed for different locations, and sometimes, activities. A camping tent is the ideal shelter for many that go hiking, biking, and fishing. Tents can be small enough for one person to lug or so large that they need more than one person to carry through the woods.

Sometimes, choosing a tent is difficult because of the many variations. Most of the time, the room of a tent is measured by how many individuals can fit inside. The three basic types of tents available for campers are:

* Ridge Tents – This is the oldest type of tent in existence. Like the name, there are two ridges on each side that slope down far and are flush with the ground. These are easily the most simplest of tents and usually the smallest. They typically hold 1-3 people and are very easy carry. These tents are erected with two poles on either side and a rope between them to keep it upright.

* Frame Tent – This kind is the hugest of tents used for larger groups of people and families. These tents are erected with a bunch of crisscross poles that pop up the tent and provide a frame for the fabric. The tent material is then laid on the crisscrossed poles to complete the shelter. Then, stakes and ropes are used to secure it.

* Dome Tents – These are the most popular of tents nowadays. As in the name, these tents have a dome on the top that prevent buildup on the roof of the tent; the dome helps things to easily come off of of the tent so the top is not caved in. These tents are low to the ground so you typically cannot walk around inside. But, dome tents are very light weight and simple to put up.

Before going camping, you should be diligent in preparation and planning. Not bringing the right equipment can result in a horrible time. Also, not having a strong and reliable tent can be hazardous depending on where you decide to go. Also, you have to determine how many people are coming along. Tents are usually labeled with how many people can fit in them and it is important that you take this into consideration. Camping is is a great activity – make sure you are prepared to make sure you have the best time possible.
