County Marquees was founded in 1989 by two brothers, Matthew and David Higgs. The company specializes in marquee hire for weddings, parties, corporate events and all types of outdoor occasions.Based in London and the home counties, we are an independent family marquee company dedicated to offering an efficient, quality marquee hire service to all of our customers.

ramed marquees are a modern style of marquee. Instead of centre poles and ropes, these tents are supported by an aluminum skeleton around the edge – illustrated in the photos below.

Features of framed marquees:

• Clear span: no central pole, which means clear space inside the marquee and an unobstructed view for speeches.
• Installation on any surface: including hard surfaces like sand, gravel, and concrete. This is because frame marquees can be secured to the ground with weights instead of pegs (though pegs are used where possible and are advisable in severe winds).

• Installation anywhere: well… almost anywhere. No guy ropes means frame marquees can fit in small town gardens, on roof terraces, in courtyards etc as they can make the maximum use of space. See photos of marquees in awkward spaces for some examples.

THE HISTORY OF TENTS

The exotic tradition of tents has touched the spirit and soul of many different cultures, capturing the imagination of nomads and free spirits throughout the world. North American Indians, Bedouins, Romans, Ottomans, Arabs, Tibetans, Mongols, Mughals and Maharajas have all favoured the romance of life under canvas.

India and particularly the desert state of Rajasthan has always had a special nomadic tent culture. Whole tented cities were sometimes erected for royal weddings, special celebrations, durbars and hunting expeditions.

In 1903 one of the most lavish and extensive examples of tented camps was set up in Delhi for the Coronation Durbar accommodating an astonishing twelve thousand, nine hundred and eighty-three persons! The Viceregal camp was superbly equipped with every comfort and luxury, with exquisitely presented camps from all the different Princely States and neighbouring kingdoms displaying the finest examples of local craftsmanship and materials.

The Company..

The business was established following the success of a single advert in Yellow Pages for marquee hire. Complete Events evolved as a result of customer demand into a fully-fledged marquee hire and events support company with specialised expertise in the technical side.

We have now accumulated thousands of major events under our belt and have long since graduated to servicing large events and spectaculars, many of them filmed on television and involving household names.

Complete Events supplied the marquees used in the film ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ and we have conquered the biggest of challenges, such as Microsoft UK’s millennium party in which 65 truck loads of equipment were needed!

Want to hire a marquee?

Complete Events has its roots back in the 70s when the two founders, Richard Abbott and Mark Hutchison were at the same school.

Richard, an agricultural economics graduate of Edinburgh University, has run more than one successful business before starting Complete Events with Mark. Mark obtained a business studies degree before working for two major PLCs then co-founding Complete Events.
